Bert Weese, 90, passed away on June 12, 2018 in his home surrounded by family. He was born on 3-2-1928 in Johannesburg, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lee of 66 years, mother Phoebe, brothers Walt and Bill and sister Suzie. Bert went to school at Recreation Park. He later joined the military, got his GED and served a 20 year career in the Army. A Korean War combat veteran, he received the Bronze Star and achieved the rank of Sergeant 1st Class. For the first 10 years of his military career he taught ballroom dancing and managed theaters. He later studied electronics, attended guided missile school on the Nike Hercules, graduated as the top student in his class and went on to become a nuclear weapons instructor.
Bert retired from the military in 1967 and moved the family to Mattawan. He got his contractors license for painting and paper hanging and became self-employed.
